PROJECT COORDINATOR – STORYTELLING AND COMMUNICATIONS

  • Position is part time at 0.5 FTE
  • Salary Range: $12.00 to $13.50 per hour DOE
  • Travel: Limited local and in state travel with no overnights anticipated.
  • Experience: This is a public contact position. The successful candidate should have previous experience working in a social services support, customer services or training environment

Job Description

Southern Arizona Gender Alliance (SAGA) is Tucson’s only non-profit organization working with transgender individuals through support groups, advocacy, community education, and training for businesses, service providers, and community members on how allies can support and sustain equality for transgender people.

SAGA is looking for an outgoing, positive, and inclusive individual to help us develop, implement, and manage a storytelling project for transgender adults, youth, and families. This person will help recruit, train, and empower individuals to use their voices to demonstrate their unique contributions to the human race through the use of multiple storytelling techniques and venues. The resulting stories will be distributed to diverse audiences using various media and presentation techniques.

The applicant must possess the communication skills to work compassionately, competently, and successfully with a marginalized community comprised of people of all ages and walks of life.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage routine aspects of project to include:
    o Schedule training for program participants
    o Select and schedule training and presentation venues
    o Coordinate media contacts
    o Coordinate distribution, promotion, and sharing of stories produced o Create and manage storage and archiving of stories
  • Assist in identifying compelling stories and selecting the most effective target audiences
  • Post selected stories to social media and other websites
  • Assist with identifying and working with organizations and websites todistribute stories produced by the project
  • Help monitor visibility and audience reaction
  • Collect and collate data for required reports to funder and Board of Directors
  • Other duties as needed.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Working knowledge of transgender, gender non-conforming, and gender creative individuals, communities, and intersectionalities.
  • Cultural awareness of socio-political environment surrounding relevant target markets
  • Ability to research and summarize applicable social issues
  • Ability to identify and navigate distribution channels
  • Knowledge of social media
  • Strong oral and written communication skills

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Experience with still photography and videography
  • Public speaking experience
  • Knowledge of various media types (TV, radio, internet, other)
  • Multilingual (Spanish, other)
  • Training experience
