Transgender Awareness Week 2006

Like most trans communities, we in SAGA observe the Transgender Day of Remembrance on November 20th, to memorialize those among us who met untimely and violent demise in the preceding year. After last year's tribute, however, a number of us felt that the event was too bleak to stand alone as the highest expression of trans solidarity.

As a result, this year we incorporated the TDOR into a week-long celebration of transgender pride, with a range of activities to promote transgender visibility in the larger community and interconnection within our own group. We called the event "Transgender Awareness Week," and we received a lot of recognition from the public as well as welcome coverage in the local media.
