TENNESSEE Tenn Code Ann 68-3-203 (d) (2004)

Tennessee will NOT change the sex designation on the birth certificate.

Tennessee will issue an amended birth certificate with the old name visibly struck over and the new name typed above it. You will need an original or certified copy of the court order for your name change.

CODE:
 The sex of an individual will not be changed on the original certificate of birth as a result of sex change surgery.

Tennessee will not correct the sex designation on birth certificates of individuals who have changed their sex by surgical procedure. It is the only state that has a statue specifically forbidding correction of sex designation.
