As with many other non profits, COVID-19 has slowed down and shifted our fundraising efforts.
In response to COVID-19, SAGA would like to distribute care packages to our trans community to help mitigate the negative impacts of gender dysphoria, which may be heightened during this time of increased social isolation.
Since 1998, SAGA has held 5 different support groups for trans and gender nonconforming individuals; Desert Sisters, Dezert Boyz, Gender Outlawz, General Meeting, and Families Transformed. Due to COVID-19 we are no longer able to hold those in-person support groups. Many trans people face isolation in their homes on a day-to-day basis. Our support groups provide a space for trans people to be their true selves; combating the transphobic environments that they may have come from.
Now more than ever, it is vital that we are able to keep in touch with our trans community to better their mental health in this extremely isolating time. Trans people disproportionately face social, political, and economic barriers. COVID-19 has only heightened the negative intersecting impacts of our transphobic society. Truthfully, more often than not, the trans population is one of the last communities that is thought about in times of crisis. Our care packages will tackle trans individuals’ struggles with mental health during these uncertain times.
If you are able, please consider donating to SAGA via PayPal by using the Donate link at the top of the page.
You may also donate by check, which can be sent to P.O. Box 41863, Tucson, AZ 85717.
Much love and virtual hugs,
